As you know, I try to make this Blog about stuff that might actually interest you as opposed to "...there's too much foam on my latté..." So with that in mind, I'll assume that you've signed up for Michelle's class (see previous post) contacted Matt and I for some delicious, affordable illustration for your Blog or site (click on the Win/Win button up there to your right) and you're ready for some fresh Music and Books! These are the cd's that are playing in my studio, in my office and my car. These are the books that currently hold my attention and keep me curled up on the couch and entertained while waiting in line at the post office or for any appointment. I carry a book or two EVERYWHERE....don't YOU?.....share your current faves in the Comment Section! C'mon....we wannna know!
Musica:
* The Hugo Soundtrack...Howard Shore...if you haven't seen HUGO go. Good for kids. Good for adults. I've seen it in 3D, 2D and will buy it when it's released. The soundtrack is AMAZING and I do NOT use the term loosely. I haven't been head over heels like this since Amelie.
* Rodriogo y Gabriela with the Cuban Orchestra - Area 52 (first cd is 11:11....just get it) Flamenco meets Hard Rock meets Techno meets...oh just listen!
* Rumer...Seasons of my Soul ........cruzy, bluezy, gentle Dusty Springfield echo
I'm Reading:
*Flourish by Martin E.P. Seligman...... NOT a gushy, how-to-be-Happy-New-Age thing. More "the science of Positive Psychology in corporate, educational and internet applications...Globally"
Seriously Important (and cool) stuff. Hey, we ALL need the "memo" right about now. Good tools for the toolbelt.
*It's Kind of a Funny Story by Ned Vizzini....it wasn't until I got it home that I realized that this is supposedly written for a "Young Adult" audience. Well, if the shoe fits....
Haven't cracked it open yet. Will let you know, and please enter a comment if you HAVE read it.
Books I'm Cruising and Loving
*Chopsticks by Jessica Anthony & Rodrigo Corral....Check this out!...it's a visual compilation of a story. Kinda Visual-Journal, Graphic Novel style. Go to this Amazon link and watch the little video. Very fun. Maybe perfect for a teen or someone immature like me.
* The Art of Urban Sketching by Gabriel Campanario...this had better be on your bookshelf the next time that I see you!....this is the book lifted from the popular Global Phenom known as Urban Sketchers. Very well laid out and a sketchers feast for the eyes. Go look at the Blog for a taste!
* One Drawing a Day by Veronica Lawlor...The title sounded WAY too precious to me, but then I looked in. Excellent tips and demo's from a group of professional illustrators. They take turns showing you varying applications for your eight trillion art supplies and materials. Loving it!
one last thing....see that fun illustration at the top of the post that says: "Very Cool Stuff!".....? That's one of our Win/Win illustrations. We can make a whole ton of these for you to use on your Blog to spice things up. Use them any time, all the time. Whatever. Whenever. A little "Cha Cha Cha" for the eyes... LOVE that idea? email me: lisahmixedmedia@gmail.com

I LOVE Rodrigo and Gabriela - tres cool! And "Hugo" was, as you point out, in league wtih Amelie. I want that sketchbook! My current go-to music is Pink Martini - can't get "Bitty Boby Betty" and "Dosvedanya Mio Bombino" out of my head.
Reading the new Deborah Crombie mystery and will be taking along some vintage Galdys Taber "Stillmeadow" books on our weekend trip to a small cabin in the hills above Ojai.
And,btw, there is too much foam on my latte!

Cruising! I don't think I've ever heard this word in this context, and I love it! Assuming you mean those books I browse/read for weeks, as opposed to literature, which I have to read in a more continuous way :-)) Right now I'm LOVING "Creative Wildfire". I've read many art journaling books, and this one somehow has it all - lots of eye candy, very interesting reading material, interviews, tutorials. Really great! two books I've recently read )although they're not new) are Toni Morrison's "Beloved" and Truman Capote's "In Cold Blood". Both are mesmerizing!
